Healthy skin, Tips

With climbing temperatures and the sun at its peak, it is important to protect yourself from UVs. But what about your infants and their fragile skin? Let's look into what you need to remember to enjoy the summer with an easy conscious.

No exposure to sunlight before the age of 3.

Infant and also toddler skin is not completely solid until the age of three. Fragile and sensitive, it has a hard time putting up with external stress and needs as much coddling as it does protection. The sun and the UVA/UVB that it emits should thus be totally avoided for young children, to conserve the skin as much as possible and for the long haul. The only positive thing about sunlight is that it enables the body to synthesize the vitamin D required for the body‘s inner workings. Although adults can be deficient in it, that is not the case for babies that have full reserves of vitamins. In this way, there is no need to put your child in sun and at risk of quickly getting sunburned.

The Right Suncare

However, going full hermit and not going outside with your baby during the day is not the idea. Whether at the beach, in the mountains, or downtown, simply use an Organic and natural sunscreen product with a high protection factor (SPF). Not to give yourself the right to leave your baby in the sun of course, but just to be sure that it is well protected. For example in the stroller, with a hat on and umbrella up, but little feet or hands sticking out, you can complete the protection with infant and children specific-suncare. .

At Laboratoires de Biarritz, we developed formulas specifically for little ones, ages 6 months and up. You can find them in Spray and Cream formats, and they are hypoallergenic, without added fragrances, highly water resistant, and with an SPF of 50+, 100% natural, and for the body and face. Their rich textures with organic coconut oil and organic shea butter are very easy to apply, and nourish and moisturize the skin. They can also be used on pregnant women. And if your little one is a budding athlete, our SPF50+ Baby and Child Sun Cream from our Sport range was meant for him/her. Its very high protection factor and easy-to-carry and use format will make it a must. Finally, if your child spends his/her time playing in the water, our White, Blue, or Purple SPF50+ Sunscreen Sticks are usable for ages 3 and up. They enable the protection of the most vulnerable areas like the nose, the ears, or the cheekbones. Their colors make it easy to see where they have been applied and if they are still on, for maximum protection.

Appropriate Clothing and Sunglasses

On the equipment side of things, the bucket and play shovel aren’t the only things that count. It is always a good idea to take a loose-fitting long sleeve t-shirt, or even better, anti-UV clothing for children along with your sunscreen. Some swimwear is also made out of technical materials that protect against UVs. A wide-brim hat and category 3 or 4 sunglasses are also the way to go. The former will cover the neck and protect the eyes, whereas the latter should cover the eyes even if that means including goggle-like edges on both sides. Finally, an umbrella and a water bottle for regular rehydration should not be forgotten. Relaxing holidays will be all yours.
