WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CHEMICAL FILTER AND A MINERAL SCREEN ?

Mineral screens provide protection against the whole UV spectrum by forming a thin protective that comes between sunlight and the skin.

Mineral screens are fine powders that have strong covering power. These pigmentary powders are made up of Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, that have the advantage being very well tolerated. They are active as soon as they are on the skin, absorbing and reflecting UV rays. Because of their size, they do not penetrate deeply into the skin.

Chemical filters also protect by forming a layer on the surface of the skin. However, they tend penetrate deeper into the skin because of their chemical nature (small size and being liposoluble). Some chemical filters are not stable when exposed to light, both losing efficacity and potentially becoming harmful free radicals. They are also suspected of some disruption of hormonal balances in the skin and can pollute the environment (causing coral bleaching for example).

HOW DOES ALGAMARIS ® PROTECT AGAINST UVA ?

ALGA MARIS ® upholds the recommendations of the ANSM (the French National Drug and Health Product Agency) with a UVA/UVB ratio, that is to say PPD/SPF* ratio, equal to or above 1/3. In doing so, we ensure optimal protection against UVA.

*PPD: Persistent Pigment Darkening, an measure of the skin’s reaction to UVA.

WHY DO SOME OF YOUR SUNSCREEN PRODUCTS LEAVE A FEW WHITE MARKS ?

It is the mineral screen powders that can leave white traces. These powders settle in a thin layer between the skin and incoming radiation and have a high covering power. Mineral screens of natural origin are present in all sun protection products in the ALGA MARIS ® range. They are very well tolerated by the skin and act immediately, as soon as the sunscreen product is applied, by blocking UV rays.

The higher the sun protection factor, the more mineral screens there will be.

The white effect is minimized in our formulas because we disperse the minerals as much as possible. Our research is constantly working internally to improve the galenic properties of our formulas.

WHY IS ALGA MARIS ® RECOMMENDED FOR DAILY USE? WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF REGULAR USE?

UV rays play a very important role in the phenomenon of ageing skin cells because they cause changes to the cells’ DNA, which can have very serious consequences for our health. You do not need to wait until you are at the beach or in situations of extreme sun exposure to use sunscreen because the skin is subjected to the sun’s rays even when it is cloudy, and all year round.

Effective protection is therefore indispensable to reduce the penetration of UV rays into the skin. The cream must provide very good protection against UVB and UVA rays. ALGA MARIS Algamaris has demonstrated this excellent protection. Be careful, this is not the case with day creams that only have an protection factor against UVB rays.

By protecting against UVA, ALGA MARIS ® is working against accelerated and premature skin ageing. Most anti-ageing skincare products claim to repair damage caused by the sun. ALGA MARIS ® is positionned upstream, limiting this type of skin ageing with frequent use all year long.

For your children, ALGA MARIS ® offers a unique opportunity. In fact, it is during the first 18 years of life that we get the greatest amount of exposure to the sun’s rays. Taking this into account along with the fragility of a small child’s skin, the prevention offered by ALGA MARIS ® gives you the best chance of preserving your child’s natural defence against the sun’s rays. This is why we recommend frequent use especially for your children.

HOW IS ALGAMARIS ® DIFFERENT THAN OTHER SUNSCREEN PRODUCTS ?

ALGA MARIS ® is a unique range of suncare products, formulated with natural ingredients that combine 100% mineral anti-UV screens and cellular protection provided by Alga-Gorria ®, an ingredient that neutralizes free radicals. Indeed it is the first time that this antioxidant, with antioxidant capacity up to 13 times that of reference molecules, is used in cosmetics. ALGA MARIS ® suncare is your best bet for protection year round to effectively prevent skin damage caused by UV.

Beauty-Tipps
WHO ARE YOUR PRODUCTS FOR ?

For everyone, for everyday use. Correct moisturizing is the basis for beautiful skin, whatever the age or skin type. If the skin is dehydrated, it gets dull, lackluster, uncomfortable and vulnerable to external stress because the skin barrier (superficial layer of the skin) is altered. In this way, moisturization is the first "beauty ritual" to be performed and should be a daily reflex. Skin drying out concerns men and women, young and mature skin, and happens in both dry and wet weather. Our METEO LOGIC ® range is for all skin types, all ages, every day, all year.

Another concern that affects all skin types : the constant stress that our environment generates, oxidative stress (caused by UV, pollution, etc) and changing conditions (heat, cold, dry air, sudden temperature variations). To protect the skin against these attacks, METEO LOGIC ® has active ingredients that stimulate our natural defenses and a powerful antioxidant that, by neutralizing free radicals, slows skin ageing.

In this way, METEO LOGIC ® is both a good moisturizer and a protective shield, an essential for everyone's routine to preserve beautiful and healthy skin.

CAN AIR CONDITIONING (AC) DRY OUT THE SKIN ?

Yes. Water has a tendancy to go from the least to most concentrated environment. In this way, the water that is naturally contained in the skin has a tendancy to evaporate, going to into drier surrounding air. It is what is called transepidermal water loss, a phemonenon limited by the presence of the skin barrier that slows excessive evaporation. Air conditionning, which dries out the surrounding air, just like heating or wind, tends to accentuate this phenomenon. In this way, skin is dehydrated  and even more so if the barrier function is compromised.

ARE ALL OF YOUR SKINCARE PRODUCTS FOR THE FACE SUITABLE FOR THE AREA AROUND THE EYES ?

The skin around the eyes is very thin and light to allow for the continual movement of blinking. It is low in collagen, elastin and fat cells and dries out particularly quickly. As such it is a particularly fragile area, that generally shows the first signs of wrinkles. It is also an area where microcirculation is slow and where the walls of blood vessels lack tonicity, favorizing the passing of blood into tissues and the appearance of dark circles. Because of these specificities using a specific product around the eyes is strongly recommended, that will have properties tailored to the area and that should be very light in texture (ex:gel-cream) so that it won't promote the formation of "pockets" under the eyes. Do not hesitate to massage yourself under the eyes, gently smoothing skin and lightly tapping with the index finger.

HOW DOES ALGA-GORRIA ® WORK ?

Alga-Gorria ® is an active ingredient composed of a group of molecules with powerful antioxidant capacity.

Alga-Gorria ® captures free radicals very effectively, with an antioxidant power that is 13 times higher than a group of antioxidant molecules found on the cosmetics market. This exceptional power is related to the capacity of Gelidium sesquipedale to protect itself developed throughout its evolution.

HOW DOES THE SEAWEED AFFECT THE SKIN ?

Our exclusive active ingredient, Alga-Gorria ®, which is patented, is composed of a set of molecules extracted from the Red Algae, a species endemic to the Basque coast. This active ingredient is a powerful antioxidant and acts by effectively neutralizing free radicals generated by exposure to pollution, UV, etc. and whose excess constitutes oxidative stress. This stress is harmful to the skin because it degrades all the structures of its cells (membrane, nucleus, proteins...) and those that ensure its "youth" such as collagen or elastin fibres or the hyaluronic acid stock. Thus, our patented Red Algae extract protects the cells against oxidative stress and prevents premature skin ageing. These protective properties are present in all our products. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FLUID AND THE CREAM ? DOES "RICHE TEXTURE" AND "LIGHT TEXTURE" MEAN THE SAME THING ?

A fluid texture is lighter than a cream texture which is more rich in nourishing and protective active ingredients. The cream contains, for example, shea butter, squalane and essential fatty acids that result in better protected skin in the event of stress suffered as a result of cold or dry weather. The fluid includes an active ingredient that instead absorbs excess sebum, which can be the result of hot or humid weather.

WHY IS THE CHILD SUNSCREEN ONLY RECOMMENDED FOR 6 MONTHS AND UP ?

We performed hypoallergenic, as well as usage tests in order to guarantee the safety of our ALGA MARIS ® Child Sunscreen SPF50+. For every product put on the market, we make a safety evaluations supervised by an independent toxicology expert. According to new cosmetics regulations, this person is responsible for certifying safety after examining test results and calculating security margins. Maximal usage considerations (quantity applied, frequency, penetration) are thus determined. According to the age group intended for the product, adults or children, the security margins vary. The expert we consulted recommended that the sunscreen be used on children aged 6 months and over.

The formula was devised using exclusively natural ingredients in the most efficient way possible, limiting the number of different ingredient types. We put a strong emphasis on the quality and tolerance of each ingredient. In this way, our product does not contain allergens or added fragrances.

Exposure of infants under 3 to direct sunlight is not recommended.

WHY DOES CHILDREN'S SKIN REQUIRE PARTICULAR CARE ?

A child’s skin has a very similar structure and functions to the skin of an adult, but some functions are not mature. The pH level of a child’s skin is higher and its protective function is less developed ; the child’s surface-to-weight ratio is almost three times higher than the adult’s : the risk of toxicity is therefore higher because the penetration is three times higher. Certain functional anatomical characteristics are different : hyper-plasticity of the skin with a rich vascular dermal network, a thinner horny layer of the epidermis and melanocytes that are less functional during the first year.

Therefore, creams intended for a child’s skin require a specific formulation because if it is different in its structure, it will also be different in its function. In fact, a child’s skin is more vulnerable and is less able to carry out its natural protective function.

UNTIL WHAT AGE SHOULD THE CHILDREN'S SUNSCREEN BE USED ?

A person is considered a physiological child until the age of 15, but for sunscreen products it should be used until puberty or slightly before (10-12 years old) when the skin changes and becomes less fragile.
